DVD lecture series on "Classical Archaeology"


Each Wednesday: At 19:00 we will be following a DVD lecture series on 'Classical Archaeology: The Archaeology of Ancient Greece and Rome'.
The DVD is presented in English by Prof. John R. Hale (University of Louisville, Ph.D., Cambridge University), and lasts for about 1 hour. Following the presentation viewers are welcome to participate in a discussion on the lecture over refreshments. The lecture series is open to the public and there is a suggested donation of 3 euros per person for each lecture. For more information please contact the Synagogue.

Lecture at the Historical Museum of Crete, "Jews of Crete in Transition, 1897-1944"


March 31st: Nikos Stavroulakis will be among a distinguished international panel of speakers at the "Symposium on Cretan Life (1898-1940)" sponsored by the Association of Cretan Historical Studies. Mr. Stavroulakis will be speaking on the "Jews of Crete in Transition, 1897-1944". The Symposium will be held at the Historical Museum of Crete in Heraklion (Lysimachou Kalokerinou St., tel: 2810 283219), and is open to the public. Pesah and Seder

April 2nd: Η Χαβουρά (Αδελφότητα) της Συναγωγής Ετζ Χαγιίμ σας προσκαλεί με χαρά να ζήσετε μαζί της το Πέσαχ στις 2 Απριλίου και ώρα 20:00 στην Ταβέρνα Μυροβόλος (στην οδό Ζαμπελίου, Παλιό Λιμάνι των Χανίων).

Για να κλείσετε θέσεις για το γεύμα που ακολουθεί το διάβασμα της Αγκαντά και την τελετή με τα Ματσότ και τα Πικρά Χόρτα, σας παρακαλούμε να δηλώσετε τη συμμετοχή σας μέχρι την Τετάρτη 28 Μαρτίου. Η συμμετοχή στο γεύμα είναι 25 Ευρώ το άτομο.

The Havurah (Fraternity) of Etz Hayyim cordially invite you to join us for Passover on Monday, April 2nd at 20:00 at the restaurant Myrovolos on Zambyliou St at the old harbour.

In order to help us prepare in advance for the dinner that follows the reading of the Haggadah and the eating of Matsoh and Bitter Herbs – please RSVP by Wednesday, March 28th.

The cost for the dinner is €25 per person. To reserve a seat please call us at 28210-86286 (Mon. – Fri. 10:00 to 18:00) or by e-mail.

Art Exhibition

May 6th till the 10th: The Synagogue will be hosting an exhibit of works by local artists Paula Christie and A.D. Lane. The exhibit will include their works in oil, acrylics and water color, as well as terra cotta. The exhibit is open to the public and entrance is free.

Classical Music Quartet

June 25th: The Synagogue will host a night of classical music featuring the Calliope Ensemble (based in The Hague). The quartet will be playing various pieces from their repertoire of 17th and 18th century music as well as Jewish Baroque. The performance will be open to the public and entrance is free (any donations will be appreciated).

Lecture by Prof. Yom To Assis and Nikos Stavroulakis

June 26th: Professor Yom To Assis of the Department of Jewish History, and the World Center for Jewish Studies of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem will be holding a lecture along with Nikos Stavroulakis at the Synagogue. The Synagogue will be closed to the public on that day.
