There
is an important collection...
There
are several commentaries on the siddur and mahzor as well as a number
of classic works in Kabbala.
Jewish
history in the antique period (Greco-Roman) is an important section
in the library as is the history of Greek Jewry in its many forms
- Romaniot and Sephardi as well as more regional aspects - Crete,
Salonika etc.
There
is an important collection of resource material on both Christianity
and Islam. Many of these are classic texts - but there is also much
on the interaction or confrontation of Judaism, Christianity and
Islam. There is a special section dealing with the Shoah in general
and Greece in specific.
We
are happy to announce that as a public resource the synagogue has
opened its library to the public. It has a collection of over 1500
books in special categories: History. Ancient Near East, Greek and
Roman. Byzantine, Arabic and Ottoman. A basic collection of primary
sources in Jewish, Christian and Islamic spirituality has been assembled.
There is a special section on Byzantine and Near Eastern Christian
spirituality and history. A quite separate section is devoted to
psychology and philosophy with most of the works of Freud, Jung,
Kierkegaard and Existentialist writers of this century.
Anyone interested in using the library should contact the synagogue, at 28210-86286 (Click
